Cano, Rios – Montemorelos Marriages

San Mateo, Montemorelos, Nuevo Leon
Marriages, Film # 0731032, Batch M601266

The following records were viewed on microfilm and transcribed by me in November 2007.

20 Feb 1743
MARGIN: “Fan’co Cano ___ Elo nor Garcia Espanoles Pilon”

“…Francisco Cano _________ originario _____ de Cadereyta …[too light to read]… con Elonor Garcia Espanola…”

NOTE: Record very difficult to read. However, no parents were named for the couple. Could not decipher the padrinos.

NOTE: Francisco Cano may have been mestiso. My notes suggest that the blank after his name said that.

NOTE: The IGI gives the name Leonor for the bride. To my eye it is more likely Elonor, but because of the condition of the page, it could be either.

20 Jan 1750

PADRINOS: Paulin de Abila, Jph (or Ma.)Layton

14 Oct 1755

NOTE: No parents given. No other surnames given.

12 Jan 1764
MARGIN: “Jph Antonio Guagardo coyote con Anna Maria Cano tresalve”

NOTE: Padrinos de la Paz & de la Garza were married 11 Jan 1740 in Montemorelos.

NOTE: Tresalve appears to be a racial description. From what I have found, the most likely definition seems to be a person who is 3/4 white (European) and 1/4 black (African). “Tresalvo Spanish (¾) and Negro (¼)” accd to this web page.

17 Jul 1765

NOTE: Again, the word Tresalba, probably meaning 3/4 white & 1/4 black.

NOTE: Accd. to IGI, padrinos Lerma & Hernandes were married 9 Jan 1760 in Montemorelos.
